Sound creation is used in many different types of media for various things. It could be from creating the sound of a waterfall to creating the sound of a car engine. There are different types of sound creation techniques, one of them being foley. This is when you use different objects and tools, to create sound effects in different types of media.
MEDIA
Video games : sound creation is heavily used in video games especially recently due to the fact that games are becoming more and more realistic. This means that foley is heavily used to create realistic sound effects like explosions in an action game, or maybe waves crashing in a battleships type game. Also video games sometimes have a soundtrack to accompany the game. This was used more heavily in older arcade or platform-type games. These would involve very simple melodies usually played using synthesisers. With advances in technology, video game music has grown to include the same breadth and complexity which would usually be associated with a film score.
Movies : Throughout most of film history, musical scores have been used to accompany a film, This could be recorded by an orchestra or using a DAW. Also for things like sound effects for films, foley is heavily used to create more realistic sounding sound effects. Foley is usually used to mimic sounds by recording multiple sounds with all sorts of items, the sounds are all then layered on a DAW to the create the sound they seek.
TV adverts : Music in TV advertisement is slightly different. The goal in sound creation for advertisements is to create music or sounds that will perfectly accompany the advert, and also pull in the viewer so that they will then use the product being advertised. Similar to movies, mostly scores are used that are relevant the product. Also things like foley would be used to simulate something like a ball being kicked. The main aim of an advertisement is to give the viewer a good impression of the product by accompanying it with good music and synthesisers. Nowadays, sound creation is more used to create more realism for the viewer. Also, voiceovers are used to describe the product.
Radio Broadcast : Sound creation is very vital for radio broadcasts because obviously you can’t look at anything, with a radio you have to take in all the information by ear. Advertisements are used in radio so sometimes film scores and foley will be used to create a picture for the audience through sound. Also, for things like story telling, musical scores will be used to create things like suspense. Also, music is obviously recorded and played live on the radio so dynamic microphones are predominantly used. Also voice-overs are used as well similar to TV.
Animations : Sound creation in Animation is vital, and has been used for centuries. In the past film scores where usually used for films like Fantasia by Walt Disney Pictures, which contained no dialogue and many musical scores. Later, foley started to be used more prominently for early animations like Snow White. foley was used to create sounds like a waterfall or a windmill spinning. Voiceovers where also then developed in animations to make the characters come to life for the audience. Now in the present day, foley and voiceovers are still used as ell as musical scores but with the help of DAWs, it is much easier for developers to create sounds.
Theatre : In theatre, not as much sound creation is used to make the performance come to life, mainly because the performance is being performed by real life actors. Musical scores are used for things like musical and these are usually recorded by orchestras in studios. Live foley is also used like hitting coconuts together to create the sound of a horse running. Sound creation in theatre is relatively new and will continue to be developed in the future.
TYPES OF SOUND CREATION
Foley : Foley is the recreation of everyday sounds added to things like film, videos or other types of media post production to enhance the audio quality. These sounds could be anything from the splashing of water to the crunching of footsteps. Foley helps to make the audience feel the film is a reality without them noticing its really there. Without foley, films would be quiet and uncomfortable. Foley artists recreate the realistic ambient sounds using things like props

Unit 4 review
For my unit 4 piece I chose to recreate the audio for the FIFA 18 icons trailer. This is because it is a game that I enjoy, and it enables me to show a range of different sounds with the context of the trailer.
I used foley sounds of my voice when the players were introduced. I had a brokenchord idea going through the beginning that got louder which worked quite well.
I like the pizzicato reflections broken chord idea. I think the automation works well.
If I could doit again I would go out and record sounds from a real football match for the ambience. Overall, it is pretty good and the sound creation techniques work well.
