Sound Creation:
Sound Creation is used in many types of different media for various things. It could start from anything from loud sounds to more quiet sounds. It consists of using the right instruments for the right piece of music you are creating. There are lots of different techniques that you can use one of the main ones being foley. This is when you use different types of tools and objects to create sound effects in the different media.
MEDIA:
Video games : sound creation is heavily used in video games especially recently due to the fact that games are becoming more and more realistic. This means that foley is heavily used to create realistic sound effects like explosions in an action game, or maybe guns shooting in a call of duty type game. Also video games sometimes have a soundtrack to accompany the game. This was used more heavily in older arcade or platform-type games. These would involve very simple melodies usually played using synthesisers. With advances in technology, video game music has grown to include the same breadth and complexity which would usually be associated with a film score.
MOVIES:
movies can also sound creation but mainly its used for ambience and atmosphere when showing something for a new perspective. For example in this video it shows how music changes things such as atmosphere and feeling in the situation.
Radio:
Radios use sound to introduce someone they would play music or a sound to give a signal as radios are not visual they would have to play sounds for you to understand.
Animation:
When it come to animations they use a different type of sound creation and its used for movement towards actions. Animations can have different possibilities and greater sound effect on the animation itself.
Adverts In TV:
When making an advert they are looking for the most enticing things to draw their audience in to buying the products being advertised to them. For example this is a car advert showing you what I have spoken about.
Types Of Sound Creation:
Foley
As shown in the Videos before Foley is where you use real world objects to make sound in Music or sound tracks or movies.
Ambience
Is shown to create the atmospheric background in a setting for a video game or film.
Dialogue/Voiceovers
Most of the time they are usually a narrator who describes what’s going on or tells a story for example David Attenborough who narrates Planet Earth.
Underscore
This is when the music in the background of a film or TV Advert sets the scene for what is about to happen and it is suttle to create a tension. For example in a Horror movie there might be bells or a lullaby to freak out the viewers and create tension. Also it can used to create the atmosphere for the scene.
Sound Synthesis
This is where sound is recorded off of MIDI or other Digital programs however it can be made by a user with synthesisers.
Digital Sample Manipulation
This is used to change the ways we hear a sound to a slight change to a big one this is made by SFX or equalisers usually to improve sound so it better mixes with the genre or style of music.
Effect Libraries
Effect libraries is where a large amount of sounds the Data is used for different sounds or effects usually used in movies to make a certain noise humans could not make for example Sci-Fi would use a robotic sound maybe.
EXAMPLES
I am going to use 2 examples and talk about how they made the sound.
in this clip they use foley sounds for the knife cutting, voice overs, background music. They use a bell sound for the alarm clock. They use foley for the bogey and scissor noises.
In this there is lots of sound going on. There are special effects. Car screeches, talking and sound synthesis with when they go under the lorry.
All of these tools are used in sound creations as well as these methods here I’ve use logic X and some Foley sounds to make my own background to a trailer.

Review of my piece
Sound Creation – Hush Review
My piece met the brief. I tried out lots of sound creation methods and used a lot of different sounds.
My piece is ok. I like the suspense it brings. I think it makes the scene scary from the sounds I have used. I like the sounds but the foley sounds are too loud and don’t really work perfectly. I think if I could do it again I would spend more time creating the foley sounds and lining them up better to make it better. Also I could add a voice over at the end to make it better.
